PingPorts is an online tool for checking open ports on your IP address. This tool helps you to verify that the port is open and can be used for incoming connections. The PingPorts works in a way that is trying to connect to your IP address to port(s) specified in input edit. If the connection was successful, it means that port is open, otherwise there may be no response or indication that the port is closed.
Use cases:
- To verify that port forwarding setup on your router is correct and someone has the possibility to connect to your computer.
- To expose a port for incoming connection to the game server, so other participants can connect to it, so you need to verify first that the port is open.
- To check if unwanted ports are opened. Why expose ports to the public as an attacker can take advantage of this?
- To test if Firewall works correctly. Does it perform logging of incoming connections? Does it block unwanted connections?
- To test if your ISP is blocking connection to a particular port or Firewall?
How to use?
Using PingPorts is pretty straightforward - just enter the
port(s) or range of port(s) that you need to scan and press the Ping ports
button.
Or you can always select a well known port from a list to be scanned. Very cool feature is
Periodic monitoring
- this is useful when you are trying to expose a port to the
public internet and something doesn't work, so you can enable periodic monitoring just to see
after what configuration changes your port is opened.
Always be patient when checking for open ports, it can take some time to verify that the port is reachable.
